Walkerville, Opening Day

These are scenes from “Opening Day” at Walkerville.

“May you live in interesting times”

After visiting the opening night of Walkerville, the phrase “May you live in interesting times” seemed to reverberate in my head.  The following is the explanation of that saying from Wikipedia.  Maybe those little voices weren’t so far off after all.  To what group(s) are the other parts of the curse for?  Does the “government” mean the actual government or a higher authority?  Didn’t your mother tell you to be careful what you wish for because you might just get it?  Hmmm?

“May you live in interesting times”, often referred to as the Chinese curse, is reputed to be the English translation of an ancient Chinese proverb and curse, although it may have originated among the English themselves (or Americans). It is reported that it was the first of three curses of increasing severity, the other two being:

  • May you come to the attention of those in authority (sometimes rendered May the government be aware of you). This is sometimes quoted as May you come to the attention of powerful people. (Alternately important people.)
  • May you find what you are looking for. This is sometimes quoted as May your wishes be granted.”

Back to the more mundane…

Owen has given me permission to use one of his songs as a backdrop for a video montage of some of the sights leading up to and on opening night.

The crew is trying to get the videos we have to get playing through a new player and away from You Tube so please be patient with us while we get through this.

Tonight, Monday evening, had a wonderful parody and seriousness of a Town Hall metting with Walker, Palin, Koch, and Politician X (1am brain mush, I will remember tomorrow) and 4 coherent members of the working class and a energizing speech by the president of the FireFighters union.  Both of these will be ready for viewing very soon, hopefully by Thursday.

Again, please be patient with the videos.  Once we get the player worked out, there will be plenty of footage to be had.

ps.  I proposed to a few folks if they would like a dedicated area where we could film your testimonials and stories of your struggles and why you are there in Solidarity with the residents of Walkerville.  Your voices can only carry so far across Capitol Square but this would give you the means to extend your reach to the rest of the world.  This would mean so much to those who could not attend in person or give hope to those who are oppressed and need inspiration.

The “Rally” starts at 7

The Crew will be heading down to the Walkerville kickoff rally this evening.  There have been a number of requests to ask particular questions of some of the protesters on both sides of the aisle.  We will do our best to accommodate those requests and will go with the flow to capture the events and it’s people.

Some of our questions may SEEM confrontational but we are looking for answers to help the uninformed who could not attend.

Look for the only Stadicam operator (black hat, black shirt, black pants, brown messenger bag) down there and give us a shout out if you want to have your voice heard beyond the Capitol Square.
